Mind your Mind is Alzheimer’s Australia’s national dementia risk reduction program. It is a community education program that aims to
- Increase awareness of the factors that affect dementia risk
- Promote a brain healthy lifestyle for people of all ages
- Provide advice about what people can do to reduce their risk of dementia
Alzheimer’s Australia is the national peak body providing support and advocacy for Australians living with dementia. Our vision is for a society committed to the prevention of dementia, while valuing and supporting people living with dementia. Hence, we developed the Mind your Mind program to promote dementia risk reduction to the Australian community.
We hope that by motivating people to take steps to reduce their dementia risk, we can decrease the number of people developing dementia in the future. This number is growing rapidly with the ageing of the population. By 2050, over 1 million Australians will have dementia unless we do something about preventing it now.
The following pages provide information to put Mind your Mind in context. They explain what dementia is, what puts people at risk of developing dementia, and how Mind your Mind can help you to reduce your risk.
