People in the community are becoming increasingly interested in what they can do to reduce their risk of developing dementia. A preventative health approach to dementia is considered important to address the growing incidence of dementia with the ageing of the population.
General practitioners are ideally placed to be able to help patients adopt preventative health strategies that are likely to reduce their risk of dementia in addition to heart and other chronic diseases. Dementia Risk Reduction: A Practical Guide for General Practitioners provides advice and resources, based on existing clinical guidelines where possible, to assist GPs in this.
Other health and lifestyle professionals involved in promoting and helping clients adopt preventative health strategies also have the opportunity to encourage people to think about their cognitive health and reducing their risk of dementia. Dementia Risk Reduction: A Practical Guide for Health and Lifestyle Professionals provides advice and resources to assist professionals in this.
